Sell on EBay: How to Find the Right Products

Some people who wants to make money on eBay has trouble figuring out what products are in demand and can bring consistent profit. While some gives no serious thought over this and fail really soon. There are basically three major questions everyone has to face. Where and how do I look for ideas? Should I sell the hottest products? How can I be sure it is the right product for me? While eBay already has millions of products, which makes some new sellers feel overwhelmed. They may wonder if it is possible for them to find ideal products in a full market.

So where to start?

1. Your personal interest or hobbies

This could be the most convenient and fast way of choosing a niche. Maybe you like biking and it is very likely that lots of others have this same passion and are actively looking for bargains of equipments and supplies on eBay. But, remember to do some research before jumping into this market. Bear in mind that eBay must be taken seriously from a business perspective if you want to achieve success. Use completed listings search and find out how big your chosen niche is, what kind of supplies are hot, what prices they are being sold at, and calculate your profit margin. It is advised to test the market with small number of your own supplies first.

2. Find out what others are thinking about

Pay attention to what others are thinking about. They could be your family, friends, co-workers, or strangers sitting next to you in a restaurant. Try to find out what troubles they are having and what kind of solutions they are searching for. One successful seller once said he accidentally overheard some women talking about the difficulties of finding a specific brand of baby slings. After some research, he found out the brand is from another country and difficult to find in the United States. After some more research on the Internet, he spotted a supplier and start to build a very healthy business on eBay selling the product and related items.

3. Offline research

Newspapers, magazines, radio broadcast, and TV programs, all traditional media can provide valuable information about the lattest trends. Get a pen and a notebook and make a list of around 10 product ideas. Absorb and filter the information you receive through these offline research channels and you will have a clear picture of what are in demand at the moment and can make a killing selling on eBay.

4. Ebay resources and tools

Ebay itself offers effective tools and resources for sellers to conduct proper research. In the ‘What’s Hot’ section of the Seller Central area, a list of extremely hot, very hot, and hot products are published each month. It is for sure that you can find great ideas but remember that everyone on eBay has access to the information. You have to be creative. For example, Apple Ipod is hot, to avoid competition, you might want to sell Ipod accessories such as car chargers instead of the players. You can also use the merchandising calender that eBay provides to your advantage.

Every successful seller has a line of products. It is not recommended to put all eggs into one basket. This is because trends change all the time. Some products are only hot during a period of time. You have to do research on a regular basis to stay ahead of others.

5. Find out what other products your customers are buying

An effective way of expanding your product range is to find out what your previous customers are buying from other sellers. They may have looked for an accessory to what you have sold them from other sellers because of your incomplete product range. Check their feedbacks to see what they have bought from others after purchasing from you. Or send a thank you message for their business and politely ask what products they need that you don’t have. This will help you to know your target market better and expand your product range accordingly.

Researching for the right eBay products to sell can be astounding at the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, you will enjoy the process for it is making your business better each day. And I am sure that once you get one good idea, a lot of others will soon follow!
